The journey in three parts

The Camino changes as you walk it. First the body takes a beating, then the mind, and in the end something else carries you.

The first part of the walk from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port

1. Physical

Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port → Burgos · days 1–11

The Pyrenees, the rain, the blisters. The body meets the mountain and learns to carry.

Walking across the Meseta

2. Mental

Burgos → León · days 12–17

The Meseta: a straight road, no signal, nothing to hide behind.

The road to Santiago de Compostela

3. Spiritual

León → Santiago · days 18–28

Cruz de Ferro, O Cebreiro and the final kilometres into the cathedral.

Who is PA – and why did he walk

PA Gullö along the Camino

My name is PA Gullö. In the autumn of 2025 I walked 779 kilometres in 28 days, from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port in France to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. My phone died at the airport before the journey had even begun, and through the aircraft window I saw the Pyrenees – what the plane needed several minutes to cross, I was about to walk over on foot.

Along the way I recorded twenty podcast conversations with people who know more than I do: about the body, the mind, the history and the things that are harder to put into words. This is what I learned – day by day, tip by tip.
